Days of European Film announce winners: Reedland and Celtic Utopia take top awards

April 10, 2026

The opening of the 33rd edition of the Days of European Film in Prague saw the presentation of awards in the main competition sections. The prize for Best Film Debut goes to Reedland by Dutch director Sven Bresser. In the Film and Music category, the jury awarded Celtic Utopia, directed by Lars Lovén and Dennis Harvey.

The debut jury praised Reedland as a formally precise work that uses landscape as a central expressive element, drawing on the tradition of Northern European spiritual expressionism. A Special Mention was given to White Snail by Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter for its sensitive direction and screenplay, set in contemporary Minsk.

The Film and Music jury, composed of music professionals and journalists, selected Celtic Utopia for its ability to capture the essence of music while revealing the broader cultural context of Irish folk tradition.

The festival runs until 19 April and offers a wide selection of contemporary European cinema, from emerging filmmakers to established names. The programme combines formally bold works, strong social themes and intimate storytelling. Guests in Prague include photographer and director Vincent Munier (Whispers in the Woods). The programme also features Wolves by Jonas Ulrich and Hen, the latest film by György Pálfi.

A dedicated section this year focuses on the work of Paolo Sorrentino, including The Great Beauty, Youth and Il Divo. The festival will also welcome his long-time collaborator, editor Cristiano Travaglioli.

Days of European Film takes place in Prague, Brno, Ostrava and other cities across the Czech Republic. The full programme and tickets are available on the festival website.
